Middle School Immersion Program

Foreign Language and Global Communications
Anne Chesnutt
(Rising E.E. Miller and W. H. Owen 6th Grade Immersion Students only and Spanish Heritage Native Speaking Students)

Year-Round
Features a year-round calendar (45 days of instruction followed by 15 days of intersession, enrichment, and vacation

  • Provides an immersion language experience in a multicultural setting for students, parents, teachers and community alike and prepares students for the competitive nature of the 21st-century society. Our school offers language experiences in Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, and Arabic
  • Instructional goal of Mandarin Chinese – achieve proficiency in the Chinese language and then further develop an understanding of Chinese culture; students can use Chinese in a variety of environments and become confident speakers, readers, and writers
  • Instructional goal of Arabic course – introduces students to the language, culture, and history of Arabic-speaking countries
  • Provides a Robotics program that prepares students for future ready jobs through an immersion of computer programming, teamwork, critical thinking, and innovation

Middle School Dual Immersion Program

Instructional goal of Spanish for Native speakers – immerse students in a formal study of Spanish, focusing on grammar, reading, listening and writing, vocabulary development, exposure to the language and culture of Hispanic communities while increasing their language proficiency level.

New Century International
(Rising E.E. Miller and W. H. Owen 6th Grade Immersion Students only)

Students who have completed the K-5 Language Immersion Program from E. E. Miller and W. H. Owen can continue the Language Immersion Program at the Middle School level in grades 6-8. Students will broaden skills in cultural awareness and global knowledge while continuing to learn academic content in Spanish. Students will also strengthen Spanish language skills while interacting with other speakers of the language.
