2020-2021 Cumberland County Schools’ Choice Program Application Information

The 2020 – 2021 application period will begin on November 12, 2019, and end on January 31, 2020.

Cumberland County Schools (CCS) is committed to providing access to engaging learning opportunities that prepare all students to be collaborative, competitive, and successful in a diverse society. CCS is proud to provide a variety of innovative educational options for families through Choice Programs.  Choice Programs are uniquely themed concepts implemented at select schools throughout the school district.  These programs are tailored to meet the diverse needs of students while challenging them to grow personally and excel academically.   All students have an opportunity to participate in a Choice Program based upon seat availability.   We encourage you to exercise your power of choice within CCS by exploring all of the programs available to students and selecting the program that best matches your child’s interests and future goals.

Choice Program Information Nights
If you missed the Choice Fair on November 2, 2019, you can learn more about the Choice Programs that CCS offers by reviewing the Choice Guide, contacting the school, or attending a Choice Program Information Night in your area. The schedule for Choice Program Information Nights can be accessed by viewing the Choice Information Nights Flyer.

Application Help Sessions

Application Help Sessions will be conducted throughout the application period. Parents who need access to a computer to apply or need assistance completing the application can attend one of the Application Help Sessions at the Educational Resource Center located at 396 Elementary Drive, Fayetteville, NC 28301 or call 910-678-2450 to schedule an appointment. The dates and times for these sessions can be found at this link.

Students currently assigned to a Choice Program will remain assigned to that school unless a Choice Program Exit Intent Form is completed and submitted to the Student Assignment Office. Forms will be mailed to parents. Completed forms must be received at the Student Assignment Office if you no longer wish for your child to remain in their current Choice Program assignment.

To attend a Cumberland County school, the student must reside in Cumberland County with a parent or court-appointed custodian. Once a parent/legal custodian makes the commitment to enroll a student in a Choice Program, the parent/legal custodian will not be able to transfer the student to another school during the school year. Exceptions to this policy must be approved by the Superintendent/Designee and must be requested in writing.

For additional information contact the Office of Student Assignment @ 910-678-2616.

Voluntary Transfer Application Procedures

A written request for a voluntary transfer of a student to another school may be submitted by the parent or court-appointed custodian on an Application for Voluntary Transfer. All reassignments due to voluntary transfer requests are valid for no more than one school year and no subsequent transfer within the same year will be permitted except for a change of his/her parent’s residence from one attendance area to another. Transportation for students is the responsibility of the parent. Students granted transfers must remain in good standing at the school throughout the year. The student must attend school and class, be on time and picked up from school in a timely manner.

No student or employee in the CCS shall, on the basis of age, gender, race, religion, national origin, marital status, or handicapping condition, be denied the benefits of, or be subject to discrimination under, any educational program or activity. All Cumberland County schools maintain high academic standards and use the North Carolina Standard Course of Study as the basis of their curriculum.
