2019-2020 Cumberland County Schools’ Choice Program Application Information

The 2019-2020 Choice Program application period is currently closed.  Parents will be notified by the end of April 30, 2019 of their application status.  Thank you for participating in the 2019 -2020 Choice Program process.

Application Procedures

Students who are applying to a CCS Choice Program for the first time must complete an application form and return it to the applicable location (see below) prior to the deadline. Applications are valid for one year only. All CCS students have an opportunity to participate in the CCS Choice Program based on seat availability.

Students currently assigned to a Choice program will remain assigned to that school unless a Choice Program Exit intent form is completed and submitted to the Student Assignment Office. Forms will be mailed to parents. Completed Choice Program Exit intent forms must be received at the Student Assignment Office no later than February 8, 2019, if you no longer wish for your child to remain assigned to their current Choice Program assignment.

Submit your 2019-2020 Choice application on-line or at the CCS’ Student Assignment Office.  High school academies have additional application requirements. The Student Assignment Office will forward your application to the academy to which you have applied.  A separate application must be completed for each high school program to which you apply.

Application Deadline

Choice Program applications will be accepted January 7, 2019 through February 20, 2019; kindergarten applications will be accepted through March 15, 2019. To attend a Cumberland County school, the student must reside in Cumberland County with a parent or court-appointed custodian.

Once a parent/legal custodian makes the commitment to enroll a student in a particular CCS’ Choice Program, the parent/legal custodian will not be able to transfer the student to another school during the school year. Exceptions to this policy must be approved by the Superintendent/Designee and must be requested in writing.

For additional information about a specific CCS’ Choice Program, call the appropriate school. If you have questions about the curriculum, you may contact the CCS’ Academic Services Department at 910.678.2407. If you have questions regarding the status of your application or student placement, contact the CCS’ Student Assignment Office at 910.678.2616.

Admission to a CCS’ Choice Program does not guarantee athletic eligibility.

Voluntary Transfer Application Procedures

A written request for a voluntary transfer of a student to another school may be submitted by the parent or court-appointed custodian on an Application for Voluntary Transfer. All reassignments due to voluntary transfer requests are valid for no more than one school year and no subsequent transfer within the same year will be permitted except for a change of his/her parent’s residence from one attendance area to another. Transportation for students is the responsibility of the parent. Students granted transfers must remain in good standing at the school throughout the year. The student must attend school and class, be on time and picked up from school in a timely manner. The application period to apply for a Voluntary Transfer for the 2019-2020 school year is April 29, 2019 through May 31, 2019.

No student or employee in the CCS shall, on the basis of age, gender, race, religion, national origin, marital status, or handicapping condition, be denied the benefits of, or be subject to discrimination under, any educational program or activity. All Cumberland County schools maintain high academic standards and use the North Carolina Standard Course of Study as the basis of their curriculum.
