General Information

The implementation of the Choice Program is a direct result of our responsiveness to our customers who clearly want a
school system that offers a choice in where their children attend school.

Realizing that not all children share the same interests and career goals or learn in the same fashion, our schools
developed programs to meet the diverse needs of our students.  Our Choice Programs range from the elementary to
high school level and include locally developed models as well as national and international models.  All Cumberland
County Schools teach the new standard North Carolina curriculum.  Depending on the Choice Program, “HOW” the
curriculum is taught makes all the difference. For example, if a child has special interests in the arts, the parent/guardian
can apply to a school where the curriculum integrates the arts throughout all subjects.  If a student wants to prepare
himself/herself for a certain career field after graduation, he or she may prepare themselves by attending one of the
many high school academies.

If you would like to learn more about the various programs please click on the appropriate buttons to the right of this
page linking you to the different grade levels. From there you will be able to link to the individual Choice Programs
and schools.

Please feel free to discuss Cumberland County Schools’ (CCS)  Choice Program options with your child’s principal.
For additional information about a specific CCS’  Choice Program, call the school listed under the appropriate
category.  If you have questions regarding the status of your application or student placement, contact the
CCS’ Student Assignment Office at 910.678.2616.

Transferring Schools During the School Year:
Once a parent/legal custodian makes the commitment to enroll a student in a particular CCS’ Choice Program,
the parent/legal custodian will not be able to transfer the student to another school during the school year.
Exceptions to this policy must be approved by the Board of Education and must be requested in writing.
